Hot Lick #3 – Quick Double-Stop Lick in A

Hey blues fans,
In this lesson, I demonstrate and break down a quick double-stop lick in A. You can move it up and down the neck to play it any other key. By taking a lick that uses single notes and turning some of the single notes into double-stops, you get a completely different feel. The hardest thing about this lick is doing a double-string bend using one finger. If you’re a beginner, this will take some practice (and a little pain).

Blues lesson – Attacking the Blue Note

Hey Blues Fans!
Here’s a hot little blues lick emphasizes the blue note (b5) in a blues scale. Instead of bending up to the blue note, you play it directly and with more of an aggressive, attacking style. The lick is shown in C, but is movable up and down the neck so you can play it in any key. Enjoy.

Greetings from Japan

Hey blues fans! Just a quick shout-out from Nagano Japan. I’ve been over here for a few days on business, hence the break in video production.

This is my first trip to Japan. The flight over was brutal. I flew JAL. Good airline, good service, but the seats were tight. I’m 6’5″ and weigh 265. I could barely squeeze into the seat and my knees were up to my chin. And the bastard sitting in front of me wasted no time reclining his seat.

Riddle me this Batman: Why do they put the video controls and headphone jack on the inside of the armrest instead of on the top? When you’re seating in the seat, you can’t even get to them.

Before I left, I loaded a bunch of new blues onto the iPod. Lot’s of Jimmy Thackery, some live Joe Bonamassa, and some old Robben Ford (1979), and the rehearsal sessions of Eric Clapton’s “From the Cradle”. I heard lots of great licks that I would love to break down. If only there was enough time in the day.

Speaking of “From the Cradle”, when I get back from Japan, I’m going to breakdown “I’m Tore Down” and post most of it exclusively on the site. Maybe I’ll just put the first lick on YouTube.

That’s all for now. I’m out!
