Larry Carlton Style A-Blues Lick

Hey Blues Fans,
It’s been awhile. I’m glad to be back. Have you missed me?

Things here got so busy with “real” work that I haven’t had any time to make any new blues lessons. After getting a new Macbook Pro, I figured I should put it through its paces and see what it can do. I must admit, it’s a little easier than Windows.

Without further ado, here’s a Larry Carlton-style lick in the key of A, that sort of mixes the A major & minor pentatonic scale.

As always, have fun. Your comments are welcome.

Larry Carlton Style Licks and Turnaround

Hey Blues Fans,
Here’s a few licks, in the style of Larry Carlton, to play over the last 4 bars in a 12-bar slow blues in A. The notes are very simple, but it’s the dynamics that give it that “sweet” feel. Make sure you hit those bends and use plenty of vibrato.

As always, have fun.

Larry Carlton Style Lesson – Slightly Dirty Groove

Hey Blues Fans,
Here’s a groove from Larry Carlton’s “Slightly Dirty” off the Sapphire Blue album. In this video, I recorded the guitar and voice separately. I’m still trying to work out the bugs, so please excuse the sound quality.

I transposed this lick down to the key of G. I believe the recording is in D, but don’t take my word for it.

Near the end of the video, I play the licks over a funk groove just to give you an idea how you can have some fun with it. I even stick in that Dixie Dregs groove I taught in an earlier lesson.

As always, have fun
