Good ways to practice

I mainly paractice via multitrack studio, with my guitar plugged into the laptop and a set of phones.
This way I can build up tracks and play along to them as backing.
I can play back, re-do or edit any track, including shifting the timings and sync.
This is good for me as I have lousy rythm and timing.

Quality is not so great but it's good enough for learning.

The other way I learn songs is via Powertab.

Both the above allow slowing down, looping and muting tracks etc.

When I want to torture the family and my neighbours I use a
Fender Champion 600 or Fender Frontman 15 and a Korg AX5g Effects pedal (sometines)

intrested in your multitrack studio arrangement sysdevman.
I have tried all sorts of practice arrangments ( just relly wanting to play along with a backing track)
had a Boss BR600 Multitrack digital recorder............but its not intuitive at all and I seemed to spend more time looking through the 200 page manual ...................so that is up for sale !

recently I've looked at the Vox Jamman ......wghich has both god and bad reviews and the new
Boss e band js8 .which looks real good but is quite expensive

I have thought about going the pc route with an interface for the guiatr and a bit of DAW software ....but fear its a bit of a mine field

I don't want to play about with a pc !!!! I get frustrated real quick with all that ................. I just want to plug and play !!

Now that sounds like what you do ...so what is your set-up please ??

OK, I just have a cheap (Intel based, Windows), but modern laptop. I have the fee version of Multitrack Studio which can be obtained from either:

http://www.multitrackstudio.com/ (better, there a pdf manual to go with it) or http://www.download.com

This is limited to 3 tracks, which is enough for me, as I am not a pro and don't want to spend loads of time perfecting mega multi track epics (YET!!!).
(ou have to hover the mouse over the left side to get the pop up menu, but besides thatit is pretty intuitive.

I have a mono Standard Jack(mono) adaptor that plugs into the guitar.
Then I have a sterio audio jack lead (2 3.5 mm jack plugs), one end plugs into the Std Jack Adaptor and the other end goes into the audio in socket on the Laptop

There are built in effects I use or sometimes a stick an effects pedal in the chain.

Hope this helps, let me know how you get on.
