Jimi Hendrix – Red House Style Lick
Hey Blues Fans,
Here’s a lick that you would hear Jimi Hendrix play in Red House. This lick is in the key of B. What makes this lick sound unique, in my opinion, are notes 4 and 5 (see tab below). Hendrix goes directly from the A note (10th fret B) to the E (9th fret G). A lot of players would do a pull-off from 10 to 7 on the B, then play 9th on G. Also, ending the lick on the major 3rd (6th fret A) is critical.
As always, have fun

Just wanted to say first off that I love your site and videos!! They really do an excellent job of teaching the licks and explaining it all in a way that is easy to understand!! Thank you, and keep up the good work!! What I wanted to write about this lesson was I like that you put the Tab at the top, it makes it easy to follow along. Your videos are already easy to follow along with so thats not to say anything bad about the other ones. I personally watch the videos first and write the tab down on blank tab sheets and then go back and watch it again with the tab in front of me. So long story short I was just meaning to say that I like it when you put the tab on the top like this. Thanks again for these videos, they are the best that I’ve found!!
It would be helpful to us students when you post a lick to explain the measure & the beat where you begin & end.
Plus, some slide & non slide Hound Dog Taylor licks would be greatky appreciated.
Good lick. Thanks.
Got me out of the habit of going from A to F# and trying A to E on the third string, on the opening.

I have the same habit, and I think a lot of other players do, too. Such a small thing, but makes a big difference.
