Larry Carlton Style Turnaround Lick

Hey Blues Fans!
If you never listened to Larry Carlton, I highly suggest you get you some of his CDs/MP3s and give him a listen. He’s definitely one of the greats. If you didn’t know it, he’s the guy who played one of the greatest guitar solos of all time in Steely Dan’s “Kid Charlamegne”. I first saw this lick on YouTube and it’s one of the few that I added to my favorites. If you want to see the original, go to my YouTube channel, http://www.youtube.com/user/haywyre62. I wanted to do a better job of breaking it down for the beginner to intermediate players and add the tablature as well. The lick is shown in G, but can be easily played in other keys. Have fun.

P.S., I added some Larry Carlton recommended listening below the video.

I love this lick! Larry Carlton is in my top 5 favorite guitar players. I just finished listening to his album Sapphire Blue. Awesome. Post as many LC licks as possible.

    ndk1,

I hope admin/owner (haywyre62) doesnt think of me as too presumptuous, but i also saw that billy gibbons video, just had to get it. I found it on
site http://www.guitarworld.com/. It is included in DVD called “Guitar Heroes – The Best of Guitar World Video Lessons_DVD”. I have ordered it yesterday plus you get pdf file of instruction.

Thank you very much for registration. I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Larry Carlton & Robben Ford at the Basement (Sydney, Australia). My prime reason was to hear Robben Ford but now im also a Larry Carlton fan.

    dreamer_al,
I saw Robben Ford at the Coachhouse in San Juan Capistrano, CA, a couple weeks ago. He was absolutely incredible. Flawless playing. An a huge sound from a trio. The drummer was incredible and the bass player was…Larry Carlton’s son.

    Wow, excellent lick!

I was wondering if you could do a little special on Billy Gibbons now famous “Billy Gibbons blues lesson” at http://tinyurl.com/b3k8hp.

He’s using a shuffle that is his signiature and licks to die for. Could you break them up a bit for us? Hope I’m not being too bold in asking you this:)

Thanks so much for your great lessons

    ndk1,
Glad you liked the lick. I’ve seen that Billy Gibbons video and it’s very cool. I’ll try to break it down in the near future.
