Lead-in to the IV chord

Hey Blues Fans,
Here’s a nice lick I like to play that leads into the IV chord. The lick is shown in A, but it’s moveable up and down the neck so you can play it in any key. What makes the lick sound nice is resolving the blue note (b5) down to the IV note before playing the D9 chord. And guess what, you can play the same lick, but resolve the b5 up to the V and play an E9.

As always, have fun

For us students, it would be helpful for each lick you post to also explain the measure & beat on which you begin & end.

Plus, I would love to see some licks in the style of Hound Dod Taylor. Even his non slide songs are awesome.

I like this lick, I just incorporated it into an A5 progression and sounds pretty Kewl.

That’s the whole idea…take the licks you learn here and try to integrate them into your own playing. Add a slide here, a bend there, a pull-off over there and you have an entirely new lick. Learn one lick and turn it into many.
