Hey Blues Fans,
Thank you for subscribing to the Learn Blues Licks newsletter. At least once a month, you’ll get tips and tricks to help you along your journey into the realm of blues guitar.
As a special gift, here is a special lesson that isn’t available on the site. This lick is a Stevie Ray Vaughn style blues intro that every blues guitarist should have in his arsenal. This lick is in the key of E and works with the Texas shuffle…think proud and joyful!
The first two bars are up and down strokes. In the second bar, you want to give a slight 1/4 bend to the B-string on each stroke; if the e-string bends a bit, don’t worry because it’ll still sound good.
In the third bar, you’re picking up on the open E string on notes 2,4 and 6; but if you hit the b-string, it’ll still sound good, so don’t worry about playing it cleanly. On the last note of bar 3, your picking an open B; however, if you hit the open E, it still sounds good.
In the last bar, you can play it as shown in the tab, or you can hit a B7 at the end (2nd-A, 1st-D, 2nd-G).
As always, have fun.
